Waterfall Spout Tub
The Waterfall Spout Tub Is A Design Classic
|
While doing some remodeling research on bathtubs, I found that I really did not know much about them. I guess I never gave it a whole lot of thought. A bathtub was a square tub that maybe had a shower too that you got clean in that sat in the bathroom. Not so anymore. There are so many styles of bathtubs I almost cannot believe it. There are even special Japanese bathtubs! Of course, I knew somewhere in the back of my brain about the clawfoot bathtubs; because my Grandmother's house had one in it. However, I never thought of it as particularly charming. It was old and had no shine to it, the fixtures were brass I think; and, to me, it seemed like a dangerous old relic. I could see myself falling while trying to get into it and knocking myself out cold, thus resulting in my death by drowning! If you investigate just the clawfoot bathtubs, you will find they vary in style, material, and finishes, not to mention the numerous accessories such spouts and handles that are used. There are several clawfoot styles to choose from, including the roll top rim tub, which has style and sophistication and makes a classic centerpiece for your new bathroom. The double-ended tubs are rounded on both ends and the faucet is located in the center of the side. The waterfall spout would work well in this tub. You may find the slipper tubs to your liking. They have an extended backrest, which is great for soaking. Last, but not least, is the pedestal style. Instead of the claw feet, the bathtub sits on a matching base. When purchasing a bathtub, you will need to choose what material you want it made from - cast iron, acrylic or fiberglass. Cast iron is durable but heavy. Acrylic is lighter and comes in many colors. From what I can tell, fiberglass is rather low-end. Now you need to consider the size of the tub and the drain hole placement. After you have that decided, you need to select the type of faucet, drain and supply lines in a matching finish. Fixtures are not just the old brass style configured like the inside of a window pane anymore. There are single handle, double handle, and three handle spigots. There are Victorian, polished brass, anti-scald spouts and waterfall spout tub styles from which to choose. There are also other accessories you can add like grab bars, towel racks, mood lights, in line water heaters, massage jets, whirlpools, pillows and slip-resistant surfaces. Go ahead, remodel and have fun with it! |
